Episode 25: You Don’t Need the Next Best Project

You Don't Need the Next Best Project
Joan Biediger

What happens when you have several strong miniature project ideas, but no clear sense of which one to begin?

In this episode of Her Shrink Ray Eye, I look at why choosing a next project can become surprisingly difficult when each option offers something different. One may be more ambitious. Another may be more practical. One may strengthen a skill, while another offers more pleasure, originality, or creative freedom.

I explore the psychology of multi-attribute choice, the pressure to identify the “best” project, and why that question can make an ordinary bench decision feel like a judgment about who we are as artists. I also consider the difference between a good idea and a ready one, including present energy, a concrete way to begin, and whether the project’s uncertainty still creates curiosity rather than dread.

For miniature painters, figure artists, scale modelers, and diorama builders facing too many possible projects, this episode offers a more useful question: not which idea is best, but which one is ready for your attention now.
