Choosing Your Next Miniature Project: You Don't Need the Best One
Choosing your next miniature project can be surprisingly difficult when several ideas are good for completely different reasons. One may be more ambitious. Another may be practical. One may be better suited for a show, while another offers more pleasure, originality, or creative freedom.
In this episode of Her Shrink Ray Eye, I look at why searching for the “best” next miniature project can make the decision harder. Best for what? Learning a new skill? Creating a strong competition piece? Working with the materials you already have? Recovering after a demanding build?
I explore the psychology of multi-attribute choice and why selecting one project can begin to feel like a judgment about what kind of artist you are. I also consider a more useful standard: readiness.
A project may be ready when it fits your present energy, gives you somewhere concrete to begin, and contains a problem you are still curious enough to solve. The goal is not to identify the best idea you will ever have. It is to recognize which figure, scale model, box diorama, or miniature scene is ready for your attention now.
This episode is for miniature painters, figure painters, scale modelers, diorama builders, and artists trying to choose between several possible projects.
